Time to Let Go of the Small Child’s Hand

Today’s Miracle Monday is an experience of healing submitted by Sister Sherry Creighton.

My 16-month-old granddaughter, Gia, is a constant reminder of God’s goodness, grace, and mighty healing power.

Gia was born with a potentially life-altering virus. Early testing indicated she possibly would be unable to hear. Gia was anointed several times with her hearing in the left ear improving each time. After being anointed when she was 6 months old, her hearing was completely restored in one ear.

As she passed her first birthday, she was scheduled for a multitude of medical appointments. My daughter and her husband had great concern, as Gia was not yet walking and displayed a complete lack of balance. Normally, we would have assumed that she was just a child who would learn to walk a little later than other children, but it so happens that her father is an orthopedic physician, and when I saw how alarming this condition was to him, I knew I had to take it to the Lord.

Through this pandemic, I have been blessed to be able to virtually join the saints from the Levittown Branch in Pennsylvania each Sunday. Prior to their May 31 meeting, I asked one of the brothers of the Levittown ministry to remember Gia in prayer, and he relayed my prayer request to the presiding elder. As the presiding elder opened the Sunday meeting, I was so blessed to hear him ask everyone to pray for Gia, that God would intervene on her behalf.

That afternoon, my daughter, Jackie, gave Gia a bath. When she was done, she dressed Gia and placed her on the floor. To her amazement, Gia walked right across the floor to the other side of the room — at least five or six steps! Gia repeated it several times such that Jackie was able to take a video and send it to me. What joy I felt seeing my granddaughter walking for the first time, just hours after her name was mentioned in prayer!

Throughout the week prior to the May 31 meeting, I had been humming a melody from The Songs of Zion. I had no idea what song it was, but it kept playing over and over in my head. The day after our Gia received this enormous miracle, I sat at the piano going through the Songs of Zion. I turned to Page 90 and realized this was the song I had been given, “Following God.” The words of the verse are so appropriate:

“A little child learns how to walk, you see,
Like my Heavenly Father’s been teaching me;
When He sees the child can fin’ly stand,
Then it’s time to let go of the small child’s hand.
Oh, me! Oh, my! Time to let go of the small child’s hand.

I can never adequately express the deep gratitude I have for all the Lord has done for me. We serve a true and living God of miracles who continues to heal today as He did in days of old. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

    Beautiful experience and beautiful song to confirm how literally and figuratively it is important to cling to God’s hand and follow. Thank you for sharing.
