Today’s Miracle Monday is a story of healing submitted by Sister Tammy Valenti. If this article looks familiar, that’s because we accidentally sent it out via email on June 11 — a technical error on our part. The good news is that if you missed it, you’ve got a second chance to read all about it.
January 1, 2002 started like any other holiday — my mother and I went shopping. I started showing signs of what I thought was going to be a bad cold. I had no idea what was about to happen.
By that night, half of my face started to hurt. The pain got progressively worse. I reached the point that I simply could not function. I went to the doctor, and he diagnosed the pain as trigeminal neuralgia, which means there is a nerve in your face with three nerve endings. One, two, or all three of these nerve endings could possibly become inflamed. In my case, all three nerve endings were inflamed.
The doctor put me on a medication that would take weeks to help and told me to take Advil every four hours around the clock to ease the pain. My routine became:
- Take Advil
- Wait 30 minutes for it to take effect
- Sleep for three hours
- Wake up in pain
- Cry for 30 minutes until I could take the Advil again
I could barely eat, as I couldn’t chew anything. My mother would make soft foods for me that I could swallow without chewing.
When my brother and his family came over to see me, I forced myself to sit up for a few hours but finally returned to the couch as I just couldn’t hold my head up any longer. I asked my brother to anoint me. When they were leaving, I told them that we obviously would not be in church the next day since I wouldn’t be able to drive the 60-mile distance. I requested that the brothers and sisters continue to remember me in prayer.
After they left, I told the following experience to my mother:
While my brother was praying, I felt the pain move up my face and isolate itself around the right eye. By the time he finished praying, I had a horrible migraine headache, but that was it — no other pain! Knowing how God had blessed me during that prayer, I told my mother that if I woke up with just this headache, then I would drive us to church the next morning.
The next morning when I awoke, even the headache was gone – thank God! Needless to say, we went to church and shared the miracle that was performed on my body the previous night.
The blessing continues to this day. When the doctor diagnosed the condition, he also told me that the younger you are when this illness hits the higher the probability that it will return. Also, the interval in between occurrences would decrease with each attack. It’s been more than 15 years since the initial attack and I’ve never had a recurrence. Thank God!
Have You Ever Asked Your Family Members…?
Have you ever asked your family members who have served in the military, police force, fire department, or emergency services about any of the miracles they’ve seen God perform on the job? If not, then why not ask? If you’re inspired by what you hear, then please share it with us on the blog for next month’s Miracle Monday theme so that we can rejoice, too!
