Sometimes I wonder what we must look like to the Lord going about our day-to-day life. Does He care when I’m making a run to Target? Is He interested in my Starbucks order? What about when I have the piano tuned at church? Maybe…

Somehow He manages to have time for the biggest of big and the smallest of small. How He does this, I truly cannot fathom. But, besides being omnipotent and omniscient, He also finds a way to be omnipresent, too. So I’d argue that, in some way, yes, He does care when you make that stop at the grocery store or treat yourself to a haircut. (He did want us to experience joy, right?) He sees our good days and bad — and is always there no matter what. 

If I had to imagine what God was saying from His throne as He looks down on us, I think it would go something like this:

“I see you, working mom, who is trying to juggle all the things. I know you’re doing your best to balance everything at home and at the office AND still put me first. Your small efforts don’t go unnoticed. Keep shining your light. I will provide all the strength that you need.”

“I see you, minister of that small Mission. You may not feel like you are making a difference, but you are doing as I have commanded: you are loving others and spreading my gospel. My eyes are on the sparrow and they are on you, too.”

“I see you, college student far from home. In between your studying, it warms my soul that you read the scriptures and stay close to me. I know you may feel overwhelmed with paper-writing and life on campus, but to some, you are the only Jesus they will ever know, so be bold and step out on faith.”

“I see you, devoted Sister knitting that blanket for a missionary effort. You may never travel to a foreign land, but your prayers certainly do. Remember that I bless my children with gifts — and keeping the poor and down-in-spirit warm is one of them!”

“I see you, children’s Sunday School teacher. You are one of my favorites to watch over. You shape the minds of my precious little ones and instill in them the need to lean on me as they grow. Be an example and show them the way. Teach them to follow me, and you will be blessed.”

“I see you, young single Brother anxiously awaiting to meet your mate. Have no fear, for I have hand picked her for you. Do not worry about what you’ll wear on your next date; she will be focused on your smile and spirit instead.”

“I see you, General Church Trustee. Thank you for taking care of my homes of worship and treating them with the utmost reverence they deserve. Soon, you will receive a home of your own — a mansion in Paradise.”

Not only does He see the waves that threaten us (like in “My Lord Can” from the Songs of Zion), but Psalm 33:18 says, “Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy.” Certainly we are all under His watchful eye and never far from His glance. 

He sees you.
