God’s Hand in the Hurricane

Today we’re sharing the testimony of Brother Rich Nath and his family as they weathered the storm of Hurricane Harvey. (Brother Rich previously shared this miracle via the Gospel Email.)

Around noon on August 28, 2017, our street began to flood as the creek behind the house rose too high. I prayed, asking God for direction, and I felt that we needed to stay put. “Be still” came to mind, and I knew that we had been protected thus far and would continue to be.

My wife, Tracy, woke from a nap and said basically the same thing to me before I could say anything to her. We felt a good spirit in that and decided to stay. By 4 p.m., the water was over the sidewalk, and our street was a river. By 7 p.m., it was halfway up our yard, but almost to the porches of each neighbor on the left and right of us.

Fear started to set in, and I reminded the two of us of God’s direction earlier in the day. We had a family prayer and broke our hearts before God. Not long afterward, I was watching the flood gauge information from the county, and I saw that the creek levels began to crest and recede at just about the same time as we prayed. By 10 p.m., the water in front was back towards the sidewalk, and, at some point during the night, it completely drained.

It rained steadily all night, and during the day for every 0.1 inch of rain the creek rose 0.1 foot. The creek passed the 100-year flood plane and came within a foot or so of the 500-year mark. At no point did it overflow behind our house. Praise God! A true miracle in my mind!

Again, your thoughts and prayers have been so appreciated by all of us and heard by our Heavenly Father. Please continue to remember us and our friends, neighbors, and coworkers. As the storm moves off, the cleanup will begin, and thousands if not millions will have significant losses.
