You may not believe this after having read my blogs over the years, but the truth is, sometimes I get writer’s block. Yep, even experienced writers who seem to find the words no matter what can’t always put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). I often sit and stare at a blank screen wondering what I have to offer or where my next blog will come from.

Oh wait … I know where it will come from. Or better said, Who it will come from.

Since my participation in the Gospel Blog committee began in 2012, I’ve been blessed to receive text messages, emails, hugs and kind words for my writing. Each compliment and, “I needed that,” comment goes straight to my heart. I’m blessed that you are blessed—and I’m honored to use a talent that God gave me for my career for the Church.

But what my devoted readers need to understand is that the words I’ve written aren’t mine. Yes, I take time each month to sit and jot down my sentiments—but I can’t claim that any of these blog posts have ever been my own idea. I actually chuckle at that thought.

Just as God inspires our ministry, our teachers, and our members with sermons or counsel, lessons to prepare, and prayers to utter, so, too, does He inspire my blogs (and those of my fellow committee members). We are but mere instruments in His hands, simply attempting to convey His beautiful message.

Writer’s block is an incredibly real, scary thing. If I’m on a deadline for an article or a client project in my natural profession, I’ve got to come up with an idea and come up with it fast. But you know what I’m going to say next … He never lets me down; He’s never failed me yet. Just as the anxiety begins to consume me, He quickly implants an oh-so-brilliant thought into my head.

I stand in awe of what God shares with us. He’s a songwriter and lyricist (such as The Songs of Zion), a poet (Psalms), a storyteller and historian (The Bible and Book of Mormon), and an encourager (the Word of the Lord, dreams, visions) among so many other titles. He is the epitome of word master and linguist. His prose is so beautiful that we’ve memorized and committed much of it to heart.

And when we don’t have the words ourselves? When we don’t know what to say? He’ll give them. Or, He’ll help us remember what He’s promised. Whether they are audible or on paper, He authors each and every sentence—and for our benefit.

To each of you reading, thank you. Your support not only of my own writing contributions but that of the entire Gospel Blog hasn’t gone unnoticed. As we approach a season of thanksgiving, please know that this self-proclaimed “word nerd” appreciates each of you and your dedication to our little corner of the internet. (I wasn’t stuck on this last paragraph whatsoever!)
