“And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” (John 11:26)
I believe it was in 1977 when I lost my unborn baby, Amy. She died after I carried her for five and half months. I entered the hospital and was given an injection to induce labor. I went into full labor and hit the call button. A nurse came in to check on me. She watched as Amy left me and then took her away. She returned only to find me hemorrhaging.
At 2 a.m., Brother Michael LaSala, an elder in our church, heard a voice telling him to go pray for me. He left the assembly line at work, entered a closet, and prayed. At 2:10 a.m. is when I began to hemorrhage. I remember my head going back, and then, everything went black. They called my family at around 5 a.m. to tell them, “Anyone who is close to her, have them come to the hospital.” They didn’t believe I was going to make it.
During this time, I came out of my body and was in the air. I was at the left-hand side of the hospital bed, watching the doctor work on me. I was fully aware that the body on the bed was mine. I wasn’t upset or concerned, mostly, just curious as to what was transpiring.
After the doctor completed his task, I witnessed confusion on his face. The nurse standing at my bedside asked if she should go for blood and begin a transfusion. The doctor replied, “No, not until I can figure out why she’s still bleeding.”
Then I saw the confusion disappear. He told the nurse to go for a coagulant. I watched as she injected the liquid. Then everything went black again.
At 7:30 a.m. my aunt, Sister Mary Dicheria, and dear friend, Sister Donna Amormino, were on the telephone speaking with one another. They were offering a prayer on my behalf. That’s when I awoke and saw my natural family circled around my bed.
The whole point I’m trying to make is very simple. Unlike the body, the soul never dies. It goes on into eternity.
Each of us has to decide where we want to spend that eternity. I have chosen to spend it with God and his son, Jesus Christ. Yes, Lord I believe!
