Good Word Friday theme: Peace
Today’s Good Word talks about peace coming from the mountains and hills. I live on a mountain in Arizona. People who live in the fiery valleys flock to our mountain in the summer to find refuge from the blistering heat. They enjoy cool, fresh air. There’s clear spring water. If they hike along one of the rims, they can refresh their perspective with a view that extends far and wide. After the sun goes down, the sky reveals just how many stars there are for the seeing.
Many people come here for a type of peace. To get away from “real life” for a minute. But, their time on the mountain eventually ends.
Today’s verse in Psalms says that peace will actually come down from the mountains. A little farther along in the chapter, it says that God can take just a handful of corn on a mountain and make it multiply so that the stalks shake like the mighty cedars of Lebanon, and the fruit feeds everyone in the city, bringing prosperity, and with it peace.
God wants us to climb higher, but He also wants that mountaintop-type peace to cover everyone, even those who are stuck in the valleys of life. This chapter beautifully illustrates how powerful God is to bring peace and plenty to His creation. May the words of the poet calm your heart if you are feeling unsettled and blessings seem scarce.
“The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.” (Psalm 72:3)

It often says in the New Testament that Jesus went up the mountain to pray. No doubt to find the Peace He needed to speak with the Father.
