Spread the Good Word: Psalm 130:3-4

For the next month, you’ll see Good Word Fridays that are all about forgiveness. There are many beautiful scriptures about God’s forgiveness. This one from Psalm 130 paints a very interesting picture for us.

Can you imagine God keeping track of all our sins, like tally marks on a wall or a ledger filled with all the details of what we did wrong? Now, God is all knowing, so it’s completely within His power to track every single way in which we’ve violated His statutes throughout our life. (Scary, yes.)

Imagine a measuring stick that goes from zero percent (people who did everything wrong) to 100 percent (people who did everything right), and everyone falls somewhere in between. Where would you fall on that measuring stick?

Even the one person who got closest to 100 percent still wouldn’t be able to measure up. There would still be sin keeping that person from hitting the mark.

Because Jesus Christ died for our sins, it actually doesn’t matter where we fall on that measuring stick. If we have given our lives to Him and our faith is in Him to save us, then His blood gets us to 100. That tally of wrongdoing is cancelled out. It’s washed away by God’s great flood of forgiveness.

Here’s a final question: If your faith is in Jesus Christ, and He’s not tallying your sins, then why are you still tallying them?
