Good Word Friday theme: Seek
Today, we wrap up our last scripture on the theme of “Seek.” It’s wonderful to seek God’s will in our own personal lives — we’re supposed to; it’s good and right. But is there more beyond that? Does God have plans for the world at large?
Yes! There’s a bigger plan for those who have eyes to see it. And today’s verse says that there’s a great blessing for those who desire (seek) to be part of that plan.
What are we looking forward to? The restoration of Israel, the destruction of everything unholy, the building of Zion, the glorious returning of Jesus, the end of the world as we know it and (perhaps) the unfolding of all mysteries.
It takes guts to seek God’s big plan. The plan is so big that it makes us feel very small and powerless. (The Lion of Judah is not tame for us to control.) But today’s verse reminds us that God promises the gift and power of the Holy Ghost to those who seek to move the plan forward. If we seek to publish the good news of Jesus Christ, then God the Father is faithful and powerful to place us as a beautiful beacon upon the mountaintop.
“And blessed are they who shall seek to bring forth my Zion at that day, for they shall have the gift and the power of the Holy Ghost; and if they endure unto the end they shall be lifted up at the last day, and shall be saved in the everlasting kingdom of the Lamb; and whoso shall publish peace, yea, tidings of great joy, how beautiful upon the mountains shall they be.” (1 Nephi 13:37)
