Today’s Good Word is one you’ve likely heard before if you’ve been hanging around church for any length of time. Let’s look at it and remember why it’s so often quoted.

We love Him. Who? God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. Amen!

He first loved us. He loved us before we loved Him.

That means He loved us when we didn’t even know He existed. When we were indifferent to Him. When we weren’t obeying Him. When we weren’t useful to Him. Maybe when we actually disliked Him or even when we did harm to His name or His plan.

We are capable of loving Him because He first loved us.

God is love, and that love was perfectly illustrated in the life that Jesus Christ lived on earth. We have a clear example to follow, and we’ve also received a holy, self-sacrificing love that inspires our soul to love God and our neighbors in return.

May your love for God get stronger every day!
