Isaiah, Chapter 29
[6] Thou shalt be visited of the Lord of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire. [7] And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel, even all that fight against her and her munition, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision. [8] It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion. [9] Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. [10] For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. |

What is prophesied in verse 6?
Some level of destruction with extreme weather.
What is prophesied in verses 7-8?
This is a prophecy regarding the enemies of Israel. It’s predicting that there will be times when the enemy thinks that Israel is defeated but they will wind up disappointed when Israel bounces back (as prophesied elsewhere). This feeling of disappointment is likened to someone who dreams about eating or drinking but wakes up still feeling hungry or thirsty.
How do we know about the above?
In the Book of Mormon, the passage in 2 Nephi 27:2-3 corresponds to these verses. 2 Nephi 27:2 corresponds to verse 6 and 2 Nephi 27:3 corresponds to verses 7-8. See below.
2 Nephi 27 [3] And all the nations that fight against Zion, and that distress her, shall be as a dream of a night vision; yea, it shall be unto them, even as unto a hungry man which dreameth, and behold he eateth but he awaketh and his soul is empty; or like unto a thirsty man which dreameth, and behold he drinketh but he awaketh and behold he is faint, and his soul hath appetite; yea, even so shall the multitude of all the nations be that fight against Mount Zion. Who are verses 9-10 directed to?
Per 2 Nephi 27:4, these are directed to “all that doeth iniquity” (presumably of the House of Israel).
What is prophesied to occur?
The House of Israel will be in a deep sleep spiritually because they have rejected the prophets and godly rulers. Note that the Bible version says that the Lord has closed the eyes of the sinful people, but the Book of Mormon version clarifies this to say that the sinners have closed their own eyes to the things of God.
How do we know about the above?
In the Book of Mormon, the passage in 2 Nephi 27:4-5 corresponds to these verses (one to each). See below.
