Isaiah, Chapter 29
[15] Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us? [16] Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding? [17] Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest? [18] And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness. [19] The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. [20] For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off: [21] That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought. [22] Therefore thus saith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale. [23] But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel. [24] They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine. |

Who is being called out in verses 15-16?
People (specifically of Israel) who think they can hide their thoughts and deeds from God, and also those who deny the existence of a creator (as many people do today). What is being prophesied in verse 17?
In this verse, Lebanon represents the Gentile world so when it says that Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, it’s saying that the Gentiles will be used to bring forth the Book of Mormon and receive the priesthood authority. While in this position (as we currently are), the Gentiles will be used to reach out to the scattered House of Israel (represented by the fruitful field being esteemed as a forest). “But behold, saith the Lord of Hosts: I will show unto the children of men that it is yet a very little while and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field; and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest” (2 Nephi 27:28) What is being prophesied in verse 18?
The Book of Mormon will bring additional knowledge to the House of Israel (who they are), represented by the deaf “hearing” the words of the book and the blind being able to see. What is being prophesied in verse 19?
When the gospel and the priesthood authority are restored, the righteous will have increased joy in the Lord. What is being prophesied in verse 20?
This will likely not occur until Zion comes but this verse prophesies that the efforts of evil in the world will eventually come to nought and the sinful people will be cut off. What specific behavior or condition is identified in verse 21?
As we are living through today, any mention of Christ in the public arena is considered offensive. Even words as simple as pronouns are considered offensive if the person being referred to wants to be called by a different pronoun than matches their actual gender. It’s comforting to know that those who create a hostile environment over nothing (a thing of nought) will eventually be cut off. What is being said in verses 22-23?
These verses give the idea that the original Jacob (Israel) would have been ashamed to see how his descendants have evolved, but as a result of the restoration (and eventual establishment of Zion), he no longer needs to be ashamed since they will then be serving the God of Israel and recognizing Christ as the Savior. What is being said in verse 24?
The Book of Mormon will bring increased understanding and sound doctrine to the House of Israel, especially the House of Joseph. This article has undergone ministry review and approval.
