Growing in Faith or Growing in Fear?

Natural pain in our bodies is an indication or alarm to let us know that something is wrong. Something in our bodies is weak or wounded and needs attention.

Could fear be an indication that we may be spiritually weak or that something is wrong in our beliefs that needs attention? In other words, do we need God’s word of truth, just like we need medicine? To feed our minds and kill whatever brings us fear?

Fear is a powerful tool that Satan can use on any and all of us — and he does. Fear paralyzes, debilitates, and kills faith in an instant. It is a reaction.

“Do not be afraid,” appears in the Bible 70 times, and this does not include variants such as “fear not,” and “do not fear.”

A stronghold is defined as a place that has been fortified so as to protect it against attack. Are our minds fortified with God’s truth or Satan’s lies? If we often experience fear, could there be a lie that the enemy has planted in our minds that is causing it?

If we know that fear is from the devil, should we trust in fear? Is it something we should focus on?

What if we knew that whatever we focus on…we are giving power to?

  • If we focus on and listen to whatever feeds our fears…. will they grow bigger?
  • If we focus on and listen to God’s word, will that feed our faith and will our faith grow bigger?

I’m sure most of us have heard the analogy of an angel sitting on one shoulder and the devil sitting on the other shoulder. Whichever voice we listen to, whether we realize it or not, that is what we are feeding and giving power to in our minds. On a day-to-day basis, which angel are we listening to — the devil speaking fear and lies on one shoulder, or the angel speaking God’s truth, giving faith, on the other?

God’s word and speaking God’s word is powerful. It brings God into the sphere of the enemy’s lies and can break the yoke of fear. Jesus said, “The battle is mine.” Do we give Him our battles daily? Jesus never cowered with fear concerning Satan. He boldly spoke truth, and that truth brought power because of His faith.

Apostle Paul encourages us in 2 Cor. 10:5 to “bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” Let us pray this the moment we feel fear. As we practice this, rest assured, God will uphold his promises to never leave us nor forsake us, and the comforter will be there to bring peace. Peace in the midst of our storms.

Church President Brother Joel Gehly asked the Lord for direction in prayer for God’s Church. The Lord spoke, “Break the Yoke of Fear!”

That being said, let us each ask ourselves, “What fear do we still have that needs to be broken?”

What we feed our minds will determine what we believe; so, when the fear comes, our faith will overcome the fear. Jesus overcame Satan’s fear tactics by often going to His Father for strength. Let us do the same, because what we sow and focus on today is what we will reap tomorrow.

Thank you for this message! God once gave me an experience with a message to fully appreciate the blessings of today rather than worry about tomorrow. On certain occasions God reminds me of that experience. This time it is this blog that brought me back and I’m so appreciative.
