Experiencing God’s Wisdom

One Thursday evening at a local restaurant, I noted four or five men reading the Bible. As they were leaving and walking by, I commented that it was nice to see them studying the Scriptures.

One of them invited me to join them the next Thursday. Curious, I did just that.

Recently, they decided to move the study group to Wednesday evening. I was a little disappointed. Even though our small mission doesn’t have Wednesday evening services, I typically join Zoom meetings for other branches. However, since I was the newcomer to the study group, I decided to go along with the change to Wednesday nights.

For the first Wednesday night study group, the meeting was canceled for some reason, so I decided to drop in on a Zoom meeting for one of our branches. For no particular reason—except I never had before—I chose Levittown. Brother Jerry Valenti was starting a study of Isaiah that night.

As the verses were read, we came to Isaiah 1:26 which states, “And I will restore thy judges as at the first…”

It reminded me of verse two of the song “The Spirit of God Like a Fire Is Burning.” I made a comment as to whether anyone knew which song I was referring to. It so happened that, in his preparation for the lesson, Brother Jerry had a slide with that same song reference.

The following week, the Bible study group in the restaurant was canceled again, so I thought I would go back to Levittown Branch.

At the beginning of that class, Brother Jerry mentioned what had occurred the previous Wednesday, adding that while he was preparing the slide with the song reference, he had thought about a GMBA Conference program from about 50 years ago, in which a brother portrayed W.W. Phelps, writing the song “The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning.”

He then informed the Levittown group that the brother who portrayed W.W. Phelps in that GMBA program was Brother Mark Kovacic, who had “randomly” joined the Levittown meeting for the first time last week and was back again tonight.

A Levittown brother asked what prompted me to come to their meeting. I said it must have been inspiration from God! But thinking a little more on it, it was God showing that He is not bound by time or place but reveals Himself according to His wisdom.

(P.S. The restaurant group has yet to hold a Wednesday evening Bible study.)
