Does God Really Care?

Today’s Miracle Monday comes to us from Sister Cindy Henderson. This one reminds us that God truly does care about every detail.

Does God really care about our concerns or the concerns of strangers? For sure, He does!

At an outdoor vendor event, I noticed a man circling around my booth with his eyes fixed on the ground. He appeared quite frantic, and I asked if I could help him. He shared that he had been searching for a while for a set of keys he’d lost and that their size and color would make it very difficult to locate. I mentioned that sometimes lost items are turned into the front tent near the entrance and that I would continue searching the grassy area around my tables for the keys he had described.

He kept retracing his steps, and as he was walking by again, I approached him and told him that whenever I lose anything of value, I stop what I’m doing, get on my knees, and ask God to direct my feet to where I’ve lost the item. The man listened and smiled and continued walking towards the exit with his eyes fixed on the long grass.

I paused to offer a short, specific prayer unlike any I have ever offered. “God, you know our concerns and you know the concern of this man. Can you please let him know you are real?”

Within a matter of minutes, this man appeared again in front of me. He took a step forward with arms extended and then backed up and said, “If it wasn’t for Covid, I would hug you!”

The excitement on his face and in his voice can’t be described. He immediately pulled out a black and a silver key on a thin, small keyring from his pocket. I was so excited for him and grateful that my prayer had been answered, and I responded with an affirming, “Amen.”

The man insisted that he had to tell me some other details. This wasn’t just any key, it was the ONLY key he had for his car. There were NO spares. His vehicle was over 50 years old, and he doubted that he could ever get another key for it!

At that point, I told him the words of my prayer I’d uttered when he had left to search. The smile never left his face. He never confessed that he had a relationship with God, but I discovered in our conversation that he had quickly spotted the keys in some tall grass beside the sidewalk, just outside the event entrance.

Before leaving, he insisted he had to buy an item from me, even though he said most things looked “girly.”  He purchased a pouch for his granddaughter, and as he was leaving, a neighbor vendor strongly advised him to get something better to keep his keys on so that if he ever lost them again, he might find them more easily. The man stepped back, scanned my tables, and I then realized I had ONE last key fob in stock — a “manly” type fabric loop with a larger metal key fob and ring for him. Every time he reaches for his keys, I hope he is reminded of the concern our Heavenly Father has for his needs.

I will never forget how being bold in sharing how God hears and answers prayers brought an immediate solution to a stranger’s dilemma.
