Today’s Miracle Monday is an experience that Brother Gary Thompson had at the beginning of the Covid lockdown.

It was the Morning of March 15, 2020, fairly early in the coronavirus pandemic, and our region conference here in Michigan was cancelled. At approximately the same time we would’ve normally been singing praises to God and opening the Sunday service in prayer, I was a little down. I love gathering with the saints and everything that goes along with that, from singing to preaching, and all of that was taken away in a physical sense.

Feeling motivated to pray, I asked, “Lord, what do you want from me today?” In a voice to my heart (not audible), I was told to go read. I got to my bedroom, I was about to kneel in prayer and ask God for direction and understanding of whatever it was that He was going to have me read or study. Just before kneeling, I started to sing one of The Songs of Zion (I absolutely love The Songs of Zion. What a blessing they are.)

Here is where things got interesting.

I started to sing out loud, but the song that I wanted to sing didn’t come out of my mouth, even though I was singing it inside and wanted to sing it. Instead, I sang “He’s All the World to Me,” but that song wasn’t even on my mind. It took me a few seconds to realize what was happening. It was almost as if my heart and my brain were singing one song, but my mouth was putting out different lyrics and my ears were hearing those different lyrics.

I keep a GMBA Camp songbook on my dresser, and I grabbed it and said to myself, “I wonder if it’s in here.” At that exact moment, the Lord said, “Number 36,” and then I opened the book and, you guessed it, I opened the songbook right to No. 36 and sang it again.

The scripture that Jesus gave me to read was Ether 11, which talks a lot about repentance and captivity. It all tied together.

I’m very thankful that the Lord has given us many wonderful experiences to make sure we know without a shadow of a doubt, that He is there with us and He is 100 percent in control. With all this uncertainty, He and His plans are the only thing that is certain. The most important lesson I learned that day is that “in the name of Jesus Christ…” well, I’ll let the song tell the facts…
