Building a Strong Foundation

by | Dec 1, 2016 | Devotional | 0 comments

As a young girl growing up, I was always fascinated with makeup. I loved watching my mom apply hers, and I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to wear it. Now that I’m a grown woman, I still love makeup. I recently realized, while applying my makeup, how important it is to have a good foundation for my skin. Foundation is applied before putting on any other makeup. It’s what gives me a solid “foundation” before adding more cosmetics to my skin.

Using a good foundation on my skin is important if I want a nice result … but laying a good foundation for my life is much more important. God was, is, and always will be the foundation of my marriage, my family, and my life. When my foundation is strong, there is nothing to fear. There will be ups and downs, good times and bad times, but with God as my foundation, I will not be moved.

Just like building a house, building a fire, planting a garden, having a strong marriage, raising children … all of these things require a strong foundation in order to prosper and grow. My foundation will always be Christ. Without Him, I am nothing.

I want to share one of my favorite passages with you in Matthew 7:24-27.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

I want to be the wise man who built his house on the rock, not the man who built his house on the sand.
