Today, we’re sharing another testimony of the restoration, an experience that Brother Robert Gonzalez had in 1985. Prior to this, he was a member of another faith and a firm believer that the Book of Mormon was a book of the devil. He’d even taught classes and given speeches to this effect. The following is taken from an interview recorded on Feb. 28, 2015.
I lived with the Palacios family in Lorain, Ohio. We went to the Niles Branch one time, and they were talking about the Book of Mormon. I had been told about the Book of Mormon and the different things in it, what it’s about and everything … but then Sister Rose was telling me about it, and she told me that if I didn’t believe her to take it to God. But to go with a “broken heart and a contrite spirit” and God would reveal it to me.
A few days after that, we went to the Niles Branch, and, like I said, they were talking about the Book of Mormon. And then Sister Rose stood up, and she had the Bible in one hand and the Book of Mormon in the other. And she said, “This is the Word of God, they both are the Word of God, just like it says in Ezekiel.” Then she put them together up over her head. When she put them together, they burst into flames. Then I knew that God was telling me that this was true.
“Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions: And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.” – Ezekiel 37:16-17
