A Day With My Friends

Today’s Miracle Monday story is a testimony submitted by Sister Pat Valenti about God’s perfect timing and perfect provision.

Our daughter, Maria, has been blessed to be able to attend special needs programs in our local school district for most of her life. However, last year, she turned 21, which meant she was no longer eligible for these programs. Instead, we were tasked with finding a day program for her or else she would have nowhere to go and nothing to do each day. It turned out that finding a suitable program was more difficult than we had anticipated.

Days and months passed, and no suitable program seemed to be available for her. After each disappointment, I was getting more confused and feeling very abandoned by God. We had asked our friends, family, brothers, and sisters to pray that God would provide the right program for her. Why wasn’t the Lord hearing our humble prayers on behalf of this sweet, innocent angel He gave to us?

A few months ago, we had an appointment to visit yet another day program. This one was about 30 minutes away from our home, which was a consideration since we would have to transport Maria to and from the facility each day. On the way home from the appointment, we were discussing that the transportation would be difficult. Driving her there and picking her up would mean that our total transportation time would total two hours every day.

As we were talking, we heard the incoming “ding” of a text message. It was Brother Jerry’s cell. Since he was driving, I picked up his phone and read him the text from Brother Nick in our branch, stating that his sister, Betty, had forwarded him a website for a possible place for Maria. When I opened the website, I immediately saw the logo. It read “A Day with my Friends.” As I read further down, it was a new place located just a mile away from our home! It was scheduled to open in just a few months.

I phoned when we got home and made an appointment to visit the facility. When we went for the appointment, Maria walked in and she immediately started to smile and giggle and was so happy the whole time. The owner asked where we heard of them. I then told the story about Betty who happened to stumble onto the website. When I mentioned her name, she said that Betty had been her daughter’s nurse/first aide! They knew each other but hadn’t seen each other in years. There was an immediate bond between us.

I then gave my testimony of how God brought this all together. How we received the text on the way home from the facility we visited. The woman who was her daughter’s aide. These were not a coincidence. In serving God, there is no such thing as coincidence. It is the spirit of the Lord interceding on our behalf. It was the prayers from all on behalf of Maria for a perfect day program.

In the beginning of September, Maria started a full day program at A Day with my Friends! During my time of feeling discouraged and abandoned, God had not ignored the prayers for Maria. He did not forget her. He knew that this facility would be opening up and wanted Maria to go there. This was His plan. That is why no other program was available.

God never fails us. In my discouragement, I began to doubt, but the experience wound up being a lesson to me. In knowing that God took care of our beautiful Maria, I can’t thank him enough for His goodness and mercy. All praise and honor to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
