Have you ever asked the question “What am I doing?” Am I following my ways, maybe just taking up space, not truly listening? Or am I walking in the ways of God?

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). So, what does that say about my ways? I believe Jesus’ ways trump my ways.

Abinadi quotes Isaiah in Mosiah 14:6: “All we, like sheep, have gone astray.” Where have I strayed from God? The answer is clear. If my ways go against the teachings and preaching of Jesus, then the answer is a definite yes—I’ve strayed.

Do I place everything in my life over the things of God? To be fully a part of God’s House, I must be a full participating part.

The Song of Zion says  “I threw it down, I left it there, and walked away for good, And oh, the joy that I can feel within.”

Threw what down? My ways? I should throw everything and anything down that stands in the way of God’s work. When you are doing a task for the Lord, how do you feel? Just that little bit closer to God.

We are to be nursing mothers and fathers. Do I reach out to that mother who is overwhelmed, or do I just sit there wishing the mother would take the child to another room? I’ve seen the ministry reach out from the rostrum to pick up a child and continue preaching. Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not” (Mark 10:14). If we don’t teach our children, who will? They’ll either get the world’s ways or God’s ways.

So, how do we get back to basics? There was recently an article in the Ladies Circle section of The Gospel News that read like this: “And what I really learned through this exercise is that when I am feeling far away from God, I am the one who moved, for Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. I am the one who changes.”

Am I standing still or moving with God? The Word of God contains the building blocks, the cornerstone, on which we are to build. Am I standing around waiting for the master builder? He was already here and left the instructions for us to continue building in His ways, not our ways.

“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
