Today’s Good Word from the book of Proverbs supports charitable giving to the poor. (It makes a great memory verse!)

As Christians, we have a responsibility to see to the needs of the poor in our communities and around the world. Some branches of the church have clothing and food giveaways for locals in need. Many of you out there support the good work of shelters, food banks, and international relief organizations.  

However you choose to support the poor, may God bless you and strengthen you in your efforts!

This proverb suggests that what we do in this life is returned to us either later in our mortal existence or perhaps in the next life. “Do unto others as…”

It’s easy to forget the poor. Remember those who lost everthing in the hurricanes last season? Remember those who are trying to survive in countries torn by strife? Remember those in the pews with you who are trying to get by as best they can?

Let’s be the family of God. Let’s seek God’s counsel as to how we can best serve the poor among us.
