When my husband and I were first married, almost 13 years ago, we lived in South Carolina. What a beautiful state! As much fun as it was living there, we both wished we lived closer to our families in Ohio and Michigan. We would often drive there for the holidays.
One year, we started the long drive up to Ohio for Christmas — and that’s when we both experienced an incredible miracle. Let me paint a picture for you…
It was dark outside. My husband noticed we needed to get gas, and we were in the middle of nowhere. He stopped at an exit where we saw an old gas station and literally nothing else for miles.
We knew the gas station was closed down, but my husband thought he could at least try to use his debit card at the pump—just in case it worked.
He turned off the car and tried to get the pump to work. No luck.
He got back in the car, and when he turned the key in the ignition, nothing happened. The battery was dead. Completely dead! The car didn’t even make a sound.
We both just looked at each other in disbelief. Here we were, two newly married kids in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, no cell phone, and a dead car!
Good thing we had God by our side (and our big Rottweiler along for the ride). Otherwise, I would’ve been much more nervous than I already was.
We decided to wait there to see if anyone would drive by. After a while, we started to wonder if anyone would. Shortly after, a semi-truck pulled in to drop off some gas. Sadly, he couldn’t fill our tank, nor did he have any cables to help jump our car, so he called someone to come help us. I’m not sure who he called, because nobody ever came.
After we realized nobody was coming, my husband told me he was going to check out the parked cars around the gas station to see if he could find anything to help us. I just sat in the car and prayed for our safety and for help. At this point, we didn’t know what else to do!
Well, my husband happened to glance over at a pickup truck that was parked nearby, and guess what was in the bed? Not one, not two, not even three or four, but five brand-new batteries and a pair of jumper cables! He came back with a battery and the jumper cables and jumped our car. He put the battery and the jumper cables back in the truck and we praised God!
We were able to drive to the next gas station where we filled our tank.
Some people may say this was coincidence, but a believer knows this was a miracle!

There are no coincidences for believers, this is our type of miracle, many years ago we were probably on the same highway as you were Sis Coleen when I77 was just new and very desolate. We too were on our way North to Ohio for Christmas. It was so extremely cold that our old van was not warming up at all. I was afraid to stop for fear of all of us freezing to death. We had our 3 children with us, Spiro aka, Bro Peter, sis Tina and Bro Nick; after passing through Charlotte it got even colder as the altitude climbed in the mountains. The gas gauge was getting very low, I got off the interstate but all the gas stations were closed but one station was so new that the pumps still had pieces of cardboard from the shipping crates. Of course, we were all praying constantly when God gave me the idea to tear off the cardboard of one of the pumps that still had a piece large enough to put between the radiator and the AC condenser. Voila, It worked and the gauge settled on the correct temperature. On our return to th interstate the gas stations were opening up so I could refill the gas tank and we were safely on our wayagain only this time comfortably warm. Then I remembered that before the trip in Florida the van was over heating so I had removed the thermostat before making the trip.
I had forgotten about the cardboard until our return home to Miami but when I looked for the cardboard it had almost all deteriorated from the wind & melted snow. It had lasted just long enough till I could replace the thermostat.
Throughout the years we took many trips back to Ohio since 1968. Yes, God, Miraculously, pulled us through many situations like these as we could never afford new vehicles and every miracle strengthened our belief and faith.
