I Prayed for Peace, and God Gave Me This

Today’s Miracle Monday is from Sister Jan Humphrey (Forest Hills, FL). She sent this in response to our prompt “Tell us about an unexpected answer to a prayer.”

Recently, I had been praying fervently for God to grant me peace because I was distressed over the unprecedented turmoil in our country.

I assumed the response would be something like an instant feeling of peace restored. How wrong I was!

Early on a Sunday morning, I awoke and was contemplating whether I should get up and get ready for church or wait for my alarm to go off.

My eyes were still closed when I suddenly felt a presence in my room. I immediately discerned it was the Spirit of my deceased father who had passed away 32 years ago at the age of 76.

I had never been visited by any Spirit previously.

With my eyes still closed, in my mind’s eye I could see my father in human form from the waist up. He looked like he was about 40 years old. He was at the foot of my bed in front of my dresser and was looking at my prayer list.

I dared not open my eyes because I was concerned the experience would not continue. Without speaking audibly (only telepathically) I said, “It’s been a long time since I saw you, and I’ve missed you.”

He responded telepathically, “I’ve been busy working for God.”

I asked him without speaking, “Is heaven real?” and he answered without hesitation “Oh yes!”

I asked what it was like and he responded “Very peaceful.”

Now I must explain that my father was the most loving, humble, kind, and selfless person I had ever known (before I met the Saints of the Church). Every day of his life he served others.

My father was Jewish. He passed away many years before I found the Church so he had no opportunity to learn of Jesus from me. I had always wondered what happened to his Spirit after he passed away.

Back to the experience: I felt to look up and saw that the ceiling of my room was no longer there. In its place there was a beautiful sky and some angels in pure white flowing garments hovering above. My father was no longer in my room, and I discerned that the angels were waiting for him and he had rejoined them. I then opened my eyes and was so touched by this experience I sobbed for half an hour.

I felt a great sense of peace that God is with me and I need not feel distressed.

I am so very thankful and blessed for this very personal, encouraging, and profound experience that God gave me in response to my prayers for peace.

I thank God for His love, mercy and grace!
