In the terms of the digital world we live in, the Lord God has an infinite storage capacity for data and a surveillance system that records 24/7 our thoughts, words, choices, actions … For every soul that has ever breathed the breath of life, there is a Book in Heaven that records every action committed — good and evil.
Our actions determine our eternal destiny.
“And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” (Rev. 20:12)
The inevitability of this Judgment Day will come to all regardless of one’s beliefs or disbeliefs; nothing can stop what Almighty God has appointed.
Equipped with such divine knowledge and recognizing that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” and “the wages of sin is death,” what proactive steps should be taken against the appointed Judgment Day? “Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.” (1 Tim 5:24) The Word of God offers a simple solution to prepare for that day.
Through the love of our Heavenly Father and the atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ, salvation is freely offered. A crucial requirement of salvation is sincere, brokenhearted, contrite repentance with faith in Jesus Christ’s shed blood that will cleanse us of sin. Past forgiven sins are never remembered — “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12) — And if at present we succumb to a temptation and yield to sin, it is by sincere repentance that grace abounds; a repentant prayer will send our sins beforehand thereby forgiven.
If the devil should tempt us with the thought that we can sin and we will be forgiven, then be ever so careful of such dangerous persuasion. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” (Romans 6:1-2)
Through Jesus Christ, all past sins are forgiven, and daily we strive to obey the commandments by drawing strength from the Holy Ghost that resides within us. “O the greatness of the mercy of our God, the Holy One of Israel! For he delivereth his saints from that awful monster the devil, and death, and hell, and that lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.” (2 Nephi 9:19)
Again, even if someone adamantly disbelieves such divine knowledge, it will not change the truth of God; everyone will stand for themselves before the presence of Almighty God at the appointed Judgment Day, and the Books will be opened.
