Songs, Scriptures, and Sorrys

Today’s Miracle Monday is a testimony from Brother Tim Scolaro that shows how God’s word can have a huge impact on our relationships with one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

I attended a singspiration event at which a brother sang a song in a way that I thought was not sufficiently reverent — it was a country-western type song, and I felt he was taking it to extremes.

I found myself commenting with some other saints after the meeting about how I did not think it was appropriate. One of these individuals was particularly close to this brother. I did not realize at the time how it made that person feel, nor did I think much about the fact that I felt free to make such comments.

I was preparing a lesson about the house built upon a rock, and I opened my Bible to Matthew 7, starting at the first verse, “Judge not lest ye be judged.” The Holy Spirit immediately convicted me with these words: “Who are you to judge another saint’s offering to God?”

I was further convicted to immediately email his close friend who heard my judgmental comment with an apology and explanation that God had spoken to me through His word that I was wrong, and if the comment was forwarded to that brother, I wanted to apologize to him as well.

The friend responded that I was forgiven — they were extremely upset by my remark and came very close to expressing this but greatly appreciated the fact that I had reached out with an apology before that happened, and our relationship as fellow saints was strengthened as a result. They also had the good sense to not forward my comment, so the brother never heard it, for which I am also thankful.

Truly, God showed me a valuable lesson, and now I consciously avoid judging the intent of others when they offer praise in a style I don’t particularly care for.

Miracle Monday Theme for November

It’s as simple as this: “I’m thankful for …” and you fill in the blank. We’d love to hear something that God did for you this year that you just can’t NOT praise Him for — especially if God did something undeniably miraculous on your behalf. It’s so encouraging to hear how He’s alive and well in your lives. Click here to share your story.
