When I think about the God I serve, I believe He is pretty straightforward. “Follow my commandments,” He says. “If you do, you will prosper.”
He makes things simple. He doesn’t beat around the bush (He just appears as one on fire from time to time.) He wants His children (that’s us) to stay close to Him and trust in His word.
But there’s still a mysterious way about Him sometimes, isn’t there? There’s a semblance of wondering that we often have. How will it all make sense in the end?
And yet, He reminds us that the questions in our mind shouldn’t trouble us because, as Acts 1:7 says, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.” In other words, He’s got it covered — we don’t need to worry.
Instead, our Lord was explicit with His instructions on what we should be focused on:
“Ye shall be witnesses unto me…unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
“Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations…” – Luke 24:47
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…” – Matthew 28:19-20
“Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” – Matthew 22:37, 39
Doesn’t seem so mysterious now, does it?
It’s natural to wonder how everything God has promised will come to pass. If I spend too much time thinking about it, my brain becomes overwhelmed; it’s impossible for me to even fathom how all the puzzle pieces will fit. It’s the very definition of a mystery to me: a religious truth that one can know only by revelation and cannot fully understand.
But, I have faith. He’ll reveal it.
Did you catch that?
Let me say it again: He’ll reveal it.
Because, just as He may have some mysteries to share, He also has plenty of certainties.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” – Psalm 32:8
“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you…Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.” John 14:18, 27
He’s got it all worked out. We simply have to have the faith and confidence in Him. He is the Master and Creator of the universe, after all.
If for some reason those verses still don’t provide you with enough assurance, ask God to show you in His own way. I’m certain (pun intended) He will answer.
