We all have a favorite hymn that we love to sing and hear. When you think about yours, think about why it is your favorite and how it makes you feel.

My favorite is No. 101 in The Songs of Zion, “Don’t Let Anybody Take Your Crown.” Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved this song. At first, I just enjoyed how upbeat and happy it made me feel, but as I got older and started to understand the words, I saw that this gift from God has been teaching me a lesson all along.

Something that my mom always tells me is that, at the end of this life, I am the one who is going to have to answer to God—no one is going to answer for me. She always teaches me to stay true to myself and know what I have to do. Just as the chorus says, “Don’t let anybody take the crown that’s been laid up for you,” we cannot let anybody take away our love for God. We cannot turn our backs to the wonderful things He has done and does every day. We cannot let anybody take away our joy.

Every day is not going to be perfect, but His plan is perfect. We will face discouragement, and we will face people who tear us down, but we should never let them take our crown.

We need to remember who we are, the beautiful church we belong to, and the wonderful God that we serve, finding the little joys in each day, and keeping our head up high for our crown to shine.

I think it is so special that God has chosen me to be His child, and I know that I will never be able to repay Him. But I know that one small thing I can do is wear the crown that He has placed upon my head proudly and live through Him.

As you finish reading this and go about your day, remember your invisible crown. People may not see it, but show them that you have it. Always show love and light.

“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” (Revelation 3:11)
