Today is the official start of the 2020 GMBA Camp In! Since we cannot have our annual in-person campout this summer, the GMBA has arranged a week full of online events that the young people can attend while homebound. (Scroll to the bottom of this post for a calendar of events.) That includes daily blog articles from guest writers that touch on the camp’s theme: The Power of God.
Today’s welcome article comes to you from the GMBA Officers, Brothers Jim Lambert, Lucas Martorana and Jason Monaghan.
“…for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (Isaiah 41:10)
When you think of GMBA Campout, there are many things that may come in your mind: maybe it’s the excitement and anticipation of making travel plans or filling out the registration form, writing down your roommate requests. Maybe it’s that feeling of arriving on campus and following the “GMBA Campout” signs to the check-in location. Maybe your mind jumps to the moments of greeting and meeting brothers and sisters that you haven’t seen in years, while having suitcases and bags in both your arms. Maybe it’s the moment in your seminar class when walls begin to crumble, the feeling of being part of the GMBA choir, or the late-night conversations you have in the hallways outside of your room.
For many of us, GMBA Campout is full of life-changing moments — forming lifelong relationships, accepting the calling to lay down your past life, or feeling the charge of inspiration through praise or preaching that resets or invigorates your next steps.
Part of what makes the Campout gathering so special is that we come together in anticipation, in unity, and in focus.
In anticipation – hoping, knowing, feeling that wonderful and great things are going to happen through God’s Spirit and the power of Jesus.
In unity – not that we would all be uniform, but that we come together, with our different walks of life, situations, and backgrounds and create a moment of the future Glory we will experience.
In focus – we set aside distractions, we tune out work, school, other obligations, and expectations to put our energy, time, and thoughts into fellowshipping with the family of God and furthering His work.
Campout is such a wonderful, amazing time that it’s an impossible task to even attempt to re-create that experience in your home. However, we can make the 2020 GMBA Camp In a week of new, different, and exciting blessings.
We’ve heard over and over the past few months that our world has entered “unchartered territory.” And so, today, this week, the invitation is yours — will you take the unchartered territory that is our 2020 GMBA Camp In and bring the anticipation, unity, and focus to this week? Will you join with us in prayer as we ask God to bless our virtual gatherings? Will you log in each day with a heart full of excitement and joy?
As we share a variety of blog posts, YouTube videos, live Zooms, coffee talks, songs of praise, and more, will you let the Power of God move? Is it going to hit you personally? Are you going to embrace a new perspective? Are you going to recommit your life to Jesus? Are you going to send virtual hugs and love to your friends, brothers, and sisters across the miles? Are you going to allow the Power of God to become real again and again?
We are excited to welcome you to the 2020 GMBA “Camp In!” As we embark on a week together, we pray that the messages we hear seep into our minds and hearts so that they feed our souls, infuse the Power of God into our spirits, and propel life-changing moments.
