The Miracle of the Stolen Books

For today’s Miracle Monday, we’re republishing this amazing story from 2012, submitted by Brother Stephen Kyriakakos.

On January 29, 2012, I went out to my car to go to work. I noticed the driver’s side door was open and several items were stolen. Among the missing items was my grandfather Rudy Meo’s leather bookcase with his Bible and Book of Mormon inside (pictured here).

This devastated me because he had just passed away a year earlier. For a week, I was torn up at the loss of these books because they were one of only two things given to me that belonged to him — and they were just gone.

A week passed, and I was at the monthly fast and prayer meeting at my branch in Irvine, California. As I was still hurt over the incident, they added my name to the prayer list. Brother Paul V. offered the most beautiful prayer that the Lord would return these books to me.

I admit, I honestly didn’t expect what happened next.

After the prayer service — the same day — I got a text from Sister Brenda D., a member of my branch. Her phone number had been in my grandfather’s Bible for some time with no name on it, just her phone number.

She told me she received a phone call from some Mormon missionaries regarding a Bible and Book of Mormon they found in the gutter a few days earlier. When the missionaries told her that the name Rudy Meo was on both books, she knew immediately that they belonged to me. Sister Brenda gave me the missionaries’ phone number and I called them.

Within one hour, I had my grandfather’s books back, and not a single piece of paper was missing even though they spent many days and nights in a gutter. After I was reunited with the books, I looked them over in pure amazement.

Then fear came over me because of how fast this prayer was answered. If there was ever any doubt of a prayer being answered by the Lord after this event, it was completely gone! I give all honor and glory to God for having mercy on me and giving my grandfather’s books back to me.

I needed to see this blog at this time to start my day and to clear my head. I don’t sleep much, just in 2-hour naps throughout the days & nights. So when I heard my notifications on my phone I was quick to answer. 6 years ago I lost my beautiful 24-year-old grandson in a tragic horrible accident falling from a 5th-floor balcony; I am now so hoping to see him again very soon in Zion Oh! here come the tears again! God bless you, Dear Sister Michelle
