Spread the Good Word: Proverbs 3:12

Today’s Good Word reminds us of the role of a good father. How many of you ever heard a parent say to a child, “Because I love you, I’m taking this away,” or “…I’m not letting you run into the street,” or “…I’m not letting you act like this”?

Our Heavenly Father is not just a good father … He’s the best father out there. And part of His job is correcting us when we’re going astray. It’s not because He’s controlling or unreasonable or just a big meanie. It’s because He knows what’s best for us, and He wants us to have it. Sometimes that means saying no to some things so that we can be free to receive the better things.

So, let’s thank our Heavenly Father for being so good at his job. And while we’re at it, let’s thank our earthly fathers and father figures, too — especially on Sunday, Father’s Day.

As always, we encourage you to be loving toward those who may be grieving the loss of a child or father this year, as well as those who are still waiting to be fathers.
