Good Word Friday Theme: Fear Not
If you’ve never read the story of Jesus calming the storm, then today’s a great day for Mark 4:35-41. What a story!
Imagine what the disciples must’ve thought when that squall went from bad to worse. I wonder if any of them lost a little faith in Jesus as they fought to keep the vessel afloat. After all, it was Jesus’s idea to sail that night in that direction.
“He seems to know everything; didn’t He know that a bad storm would come and we’d all die?”
Then, imagine how they felt when Jesus, after banishing the storm, asks them, “Why are you afraid?”
Well, isn’t it obvious?!
We thought we were going to die, and then you unleashed superhuman power in front of our very eyes!
But the Lord’s question is so telling. If we have Jesus with us (within our very souls) then why are we afraid of the storms?
Sometimes, like the disciples, we only feel relief from fear after the storm stops. But we don’t have to wait for that. If we’re in the same boat as Jesus, then there truly is nothing to fear. We haven’t sailed the wrong sea. We are exactly where He wants us to be, and He is all the safety and shield we will ever need.
“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:39)
