Good Word Friday theme: Peace
Can you use a little peace in these troubled times? Today’s Good Word is about God’s peace entering our lives.
The verse is the final goodbye that Alma gives to the people of Gideon at the conclusion of a sermon in which he explains who Jesus Christ is and outlines the basics of having faith in Christ. Alma perceives that the people of Gideon accept his words, and so he prays for peace to rest upon the people in every area of life — where they live, what they own, and their families. (Those are some of the areas of life that worry us most. Wouldn’t it be amazing for peace to reign in them?)
When we hear the gospel of Christ, and when we give “exceeding diligence and heed” to that message, as Alma says in verse 26, we open ourselves to receiving God’s peace, “according to (our) faith and good works.”
Imagine God holding a huge blanket (soft and weightless but also warm and strong) and He can’t wait to cover us — everything in our lives — with this gentle protection. Imagine this being the peace of God resting upon you “from this time forth and forever.” May this calming image allow you to experience more of God’s peace in your life today.
“And Now, may the peace of God rest upon you, and unto your houses and lands, and upon your flocks and herds, and all that you possess, your women and your children, according to your faith and good works, from this time forth and forever.” (Alma 7:27)
