The spring of 2012, DTE Energy (our local energy company) sent our neighborhood letters that they would be moving all of our electrical posts from one side of the street to another, so we were getting a nice huge electrical post on our side of the street right in our lawn.
Needless to say, all of the neighbors on the “receiving a new electrical post” side of the street were not very happy. There was a lot of complaining and disappointment that summer when the new posts were installed. They dug up lawns, sidewalks and driveways all along our street and it was a loud obnoxious mess for the entire summer.
By the following spring, our lawn, driveways and sidewalks had not been repaired and I have to admit we were a little annoyed by the whole thing … and I know this sounds like I am complaining, but with what happened next we know the whole frustrating fiasco was in God’s plan.
In the spring of 2013, towards the end of the school year, I had come home around 2:30 in the afternoon, put our son down for a nap, and was folding laundry in our living room when I heard a loud crashing sound.
Rushing to the window and looking out, I saw that someone had driven off the road and crashed right into the new electrical post in our lawn, snapping the pole in half. Thank God the pole did not fall but remained suspended above the car not allowing it to fall on our house or lawn.
The true miracle was that had that pole not been there, the car would have come crashing through our living room window — right where I was folding laundry. At that moment, I knew that God’s hand was in the matter.
Being bigger than us and knowing so much more than we do, God had moved upon DTE Energy to have them change the location of all the electrical poles for that moment. He placed that pole in the exact spot where a person, a year later, would drive their car off the road and spared my life.
I am so thankful for God’s love and mercy, and every time I see that huge electrical pole outside my window I am reminded of how the Lord is always watching and protecting us – even when we do not see it ourselves.
Didn’t Make Sense Till Later…
