Sit to Stand

My job is to work with kids with special needs, and sometimes I get to help them learn how to move more efficiently. One particular kid I get to work with is fearful of making the transition from sitting to standing because she is afraid of falling over. Let’s call this teeny tiny gal Kathy.

Kathy will start off well by correctly placing her hands and feet for optimum support. Then she will muster all the strength she has to make the transfer, even with a little momentum from rocking her trunk back and forward prior to making the move. Can you picture this in your mind?

So far so good, but once she is about halfway to standing, she will become fearful and will not give the full effort required to make the stand. Sometimes she will get stuck about halfway, but most of the time she just falls backward onto the surface she just stood from.

I think we can learn a lesson from Kathy.

When we go to the Lord in prayer about something, let’s start off like Kathy, with full intention of being successful. But then, rather than getting stuck halfway, let’s continue on, pressing forward in prayer, until we see God move His mighty hand!

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

–James 1:6-8
