Capernaum is a town around the Sea of Galilee where Jesus spent much time. Israel is a land with thousands of years of history and many layers. It is a Biblical archeologist’s dream.
The home of the Israeli President is open for visitors, and we enjoyed a lecture and tour of the grounds.
Many churches have been built over the years at locations important to Christians, such as the All Nations Church in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Heart wrenching experience. The Holocaust History Museum chronicles one of the darkest periods of the world’s recent history.
The old city of Jerusalem has been uncovered with ruins of King David’s palace and many ancient artifacts.
Written prayers are crammed into every crevice that can be reached, as millions flock to the Western Wall.
The Western Wall is actually not part of the Temple (in Jesus’ day). The wall is a portion of the foundational wall of the Temple Mount area. The prayers offered at the Western Wall were so heartfelt that Gentiles began calling the site the Wailing Wall.
The Jordan River, just south of the Sea of Galilee. Many tourists flock to this location to be baptized.
The Qumran Caves are in the area of Israel where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
