Hummingbird Promises

In adopting a new routine of exercise, which involves walking to and from a nearby park, I have become acquainted with the hummingbird pictured here in this article. Actually, I don’t know if it is the same hummingbird I see every morning, but I do see at least one hummingbird and sometimes two flying in and out of one particular tree.

Since moving to Arizona, I have seen many hummingbirds and have grown very fond of them. I am enamored with how small but fast they are. Obviously, the certain tree where I spot them has a food source that they enjoy, which is most likely nectar.

Immediately, I am reminded of Matthew 6:26: “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”

The scripture then goes on to explain that we should not worry and how worry does not change things. The scripture promises if we first seek the kingdom of God and its righteousness, the things we deem necessary like food and clothing will be added to us.

This scripture has become my favorite as indicated in my bio below. I owned this scripture as one to live by when I graduated from college trying to land my first job. At that time, I cried out to the Lord, and He showed me those verses. Since then, I can truly say He has always provided all the things I need. However, once again, in this season of my life, I am looking to these particular words for His blessed assurance.

The hummingbirds are a visual reminder to me that on a daily basis, their food is provided for them. Without fail, every morning they busily buzz in and out of the tree finding sweet nectar. How much sweeter is it for me to become nourished by my Heavenly Father’s promises for provisions just as the hummingbirds quench their thirst for the sweet nectar that awaits for them each morning.
