He’s got the whole world in His hands.
He’s got the itty bitty baby in His hands.
He’s got a-you and me brother in His hands.
He’s got a-you and me sister in His hands.

He’s got the whole world in His hands!


I can’t think of a time when this happy little song has made more sense, because I can’t think of a time, at least in my lifetime, when the entire world has been so impacted by one thing. As this song states, He, being Jesus Christ, has the whole world in His hands. Not just you, not just me, not just The Church of Jesus Christ, but the whole world.

I’m sure by now you know I am referring to the coronavirus. The virus that has turned our lives upside down and inside out. A virus that has changed history and caused confusion, concern, anxiety, unrest, and so many other unpleasant emotions. Ironically, this ugly disease that has caused so much grief and pain in our world has also united our world.

I can be chatting with a customer service rep from any country in the world and say, “Stay safe and healthy,” and he or she will know exactly why I said it. Our often divided world is united in defeating this virus. We are all on the same side. “I don’t want the Coronavirus to be eliminated!” said no one ever, in any place or in any language.

Not only is the world united in its efforts to overcome, but The Church of Jesus Christ has become united to overcome the obstacle of not being able to meet together. It is often said, you don’t miss something until you don’t have it.

Have you ever had these thoughts on a Wednesday (or whichever weeknight your branch’s midweek meeting occurs on)?

• I have 30 minutes to eat and get to church; I probably won’t make it.
• Other people don’t always go … maybe I won’t make it tonight.
• I had a bad day at work and I have a deadline in the morning.
• The kids need to go to bed, and besides that, it’s just a prayer meeting.

Or even some of these:

• Greensburg is a long four-hour drive, and I have a lot to do this weekend.
• Campout is not a vacation!
• They always hold Region Conference in that branch.

Raise your hand if you long to be in church, sitting next to your brothers and sisters, free to give them a hug, a holy kiss or shake their hand? Wouldn’t it be so cool if you could see our hands going up, one by one, across the country as this blog is being read? I envision Sister (fill in the blank) in her home office raising her hand as she reads this blog. I imagine Brother (fill in the blank) at his kitchen table raising his right hand, holding his tablet with his left hand while reading this blog. “What are you doing? Why are you raising your hand?” his wife asks him as she pours herself a cup of coffee.

Isn’t it glorious to think that today, April 16, 2020, our hands are raised in unity across the country, and even possibly across the world? Symbolically, don’t let your hands go down! Keep them raised! If needed, be the Aaron for someone that needs assistance in keeping their hands raised. Let us remain united as we trudge through these days of uncertainty. However, there is one thing that you can be certain of — God will never leave nor forsake you!
