Today is our last Good Word Friday on the topic of forgiveness. Micah 7 gives us a beautiful word picture. When God forgives us, He sends our sins to the bottom of the ocean. They’re about as far away from us as they can get.
Here’s another picture: Someone getting baptized. The person is fully immersed in water — where the sins “melt off and drown” — and then raised up clean in spirit.
Another picture: The entire earth covered in water with all the wickedness stifled beneath the waves. Yet the righteous float above unharmed.
One last picture: A disobedient man plunged into a stormy sea only to emerge from the depths three days later ready to do God’s will.
God doesn’t send us to the bottom of the ocean to languish. Our sins go there, and we’re given another chance to live the beautiful life God wants for us. This grace is central to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we pray that it remains central in your heart as you serve Him each day.
Many times we’re tempted to go fishing for those old sins. When those temptations come, let’s remember to leave them where God put them and move forward in the cleansing power of His blood.
