Today’s article, written by Brother Gianni DiFede, is part of our Friday guest column hosted by the young people from the Lake Worth Branch, Florida.
As a current university student myself, stepping into college is a huge milestone. While we pray continually that the Lord will guide us and lead us to the correct college, once we take that first step, it’s important to keep ourselves grounded firmly in our faith.
Reading God’s Word
While we college students feed our brain with new knowledge about an interest we have in the world, we must also make sure to feed our spirit with the word of God.
“But he answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)
The Bible and Book of Mormon give us strength and allow us to learn His plan of salvation and how to become more righteous. As Lehi says in 1 Nephi 8, we must press forward and hold fast to the Rod of Iron, God’s Word, so that He will lead our ways.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:6-7)
A Collected Congregation
I am blessed to have the Lake Worth Branch five minutes away from my residence, but I also know that some college students may be a lot further away from a church location.
Nevertheless, how the Church reacted to COVID-19 could be seen as a benefit to them, as physical distance became less of a barrier. Physical meetings of branches turned virtual, allowing those who are a little further away to still get a taste of our body of praise until they are able to return to a branch.
With many resources such as The Songs of Zion, Gospel News, Gospel Blog, GMBA Camp-In 2021, and newly restarted programs such as the Student Support Program, there are many ways to still connect. Keep your faith, brothers, sisters, and friends, and God Bless You.
Next Friday: Sister Alyssa Maddox writes to us about how we can gain perspective on trials in our lives.
