Happiest Place on Earth?

As I write this, my family and I are on our first vacation to Disney World. For those who have been here, you know that the staff members will go out of their way to ensure that you have the best experience possible. The nickname for the park is The Happiest Place on Earth.

But, is it really?

Let’s look at an example from our first full day here. While the rides, attractions, and service were fantastic, the trip to the buses at closing time was anything but. There was no indication where one bus line ended and another began, so confusion was the name of the game. Add the heat, fatigue of a day with little kids at an amusement park, and a lack of patience, and you get a war of words between two adults about someone cutting line. It took security showing up to have cooler heads prevail. Of course, there were tons of cell phones pulled out to record the event, and there were a few instigators who were very quick to help escalate the situation. Obviously, The Happiest Place on Earth moniker didn’t exactly apply in this case.

Thankfully, we have a hope in a true Happiest Place on Earth that is to come — Zion! Isaiah 11:6-9 describes a world, compared to today, turned upside down. It describes a time where there will be no destruction of any kind, even affecting the animals and the food chain as we know it. Christ speaks of Zion as well in 3 Nephi 20. He states that the powers of heaven will be among the people and that He would be in their midst.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ll take Zion any time over the best service and coolest rides that a theme park can provide. No arguing, no fighting, sharing everything in common, and all living in the peace and the love of God with Christ among them. Zion will truly be The Happiest Place on Earth, the kingdom of God among mankind. It’s my hope and prayer that I’ll be able to see and experience it in my day.
