Today's Thought Provoker
This whole week we have been singing songs from the Saints Hymnal at multiple nursing homes around Spartanburg. After the first one, I noticed that a couple of the people in the homes sang along. When I would briefly speak with the occupants after the songs and an ending prayer, I noticed that some seemed to not be fully with it. Today we sang at Magnolia Place, and one of the care takers addressed the group just as we were about to leave, stating how much she was thankful for our visit and how music tends to be one of the last things people lose with old age. After she had said it, everything started to make sense.
Today I learned how important it is to visit the elderly or those in assisted living because it appears few visit them. At the one assisted living home we sang at this afternoon, I was asked to fill out the visitor logbook. When signing the book, I noticed the last documented visitor was a month ago.
