You Don't Have to Wait

It’s a new year. That means a lot of New Year’s resolutions are being made. And by now, over two weeks into January, that means a lot of New Year’s resolutions are already broken.

As a personal trainer, January is my busiest time of year. After eating all the sugary treats over the holidays and not moving very much, everyone vows to be healthier. Sometimes people take it seriously and really make changes, while others attempt it half-heartedly, and their effort lasts maybe a week.

I love goals and think that it's wonderful for people to make them and try their best to achieve them. However, we don’t have to wait for a new year to start working at any goal.

We don’t have to wait until January 1 to surrender ourselves to the Lord and ask for baptism. Whenever we ask, we are baptized, either that day or a week or so later. It doesn’t matter if there is 3 inches of ice on the lake that the deacons have to chop out beforehand or if it’s in the middle of summer.

God takes us as we are, whenever.

We don’t have to wait until January 1 to seek forgiveness from someone we've wronged. We don’t have to wait to repent to the Lord for something we've done to displease Him. We can pick up scripture and start reading anytime we want.

So, if your New Year's resolutions have already gone by the wayside, you don't have to wait till next January 1 to start over.
