Spread the Good Word: Romans 6:22
Good Word Friday theme: Freedom and liberty
Have you ever heard a minister or preacher or fellow Christian say that we're designed to worship something? If we don't worship God, then we'll find something else to worship. This is so true, and today's verse reinforces it.
Paul describes how we are all the servants (or worshippers) of sin. When we believe in Jesus, we are freed from that slavery. But after Jesus frees us, He does not simply let go of us, like a person releases a helium balloon to float away who knows where. Jesus holds on.
We become His servants, and unlike our old master (sin), Jesus does not pay us in death. Instead, He pays us in holiness (His to cover ours) and everlasting life at the end of our earthly journey.
Let's not make the mistake of thinking that true freedom means serving no one. We just aren't designed to function like an untethered balloon to float haphazardly through life. Eventually, we will indenture ourselves to some kind of master. Our only hope for a free life is to serve our Maker.
But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness and the end everlasting life. (Romans 6:22)
