Spread the Good Word: James 1:8
In the coming weeks on Good Word Friday, we're going to feature four scriptures from each of the books of James. Today, we plucked this one from the first chapter, and it reminds us of the consequences that come with being double minded.
What does it mean to be double minded? Merriam-Webster says that it means "wavering in mind, undecided, vacillating."
If we're constantly being pulled toward God and then toward evil and then back and forth again and again, we're not exactly walking a straight and narrow path — probably more of a zig-zag. We lack conviction, so we can't remain consistent. We're not sure what we believe, so we don't always make great choices.
We all face temptations, and we all make mistakes. But that's not our goal — we strive to stay single in mind, purpose, and heart. We know that the best outcomes happen when we're focused on God — just God — and we stand firm on His promises, we base decisions on faith, and we live with joy and hope.
There's a lot out there clamoring for a little piece of our mind. Let's strive to stay single minded with Jesus Christ as our focus, and let's watch our instability decrease and our conviction increase.
