Spartanburg Youth in Action Field Journal: Day 1
This week, we have a very special treat for you! Directly after GMBA Campout, a group of young people traveled to Spartanburg for Youth in Action, where they dedicated the week to community service. The theme was "Make Me a Blessing."
Each day, one of the tour participants kept a field journal, recording tidbits from the trip. This week, we're sharing thoughts, reflections, and humorous anecdotes as told by five different young people. We want to give a big thanks to Sister Alyssa Maddox for coordinating this at our request! She did an awesome job recruiting writers for each day.
So, without further ado...

Today's Time Table
9 a.m. Morning chapel led by Sister Kathryn Genaro, Sister Elizabeth Zaccagnini, and Sister Camille Hamet on changing the "Impossible" to "I'm Possible" with God
10 a.m. Singing at Valley Falls Nursing Home
12 p.m. Lunch at the Spartanburg Branch
2 p.m. Singing at Wesley Court Nursing Home
We had a wonderful time today and received many blessings. I was amazed to see the number of people who still remembered the words to the songs we were singing, even without a hymnal in their hands. As we were singing, we could see the joy they felt just to have us there. One woman remarked that it was the most people she'd ever seen come to watch any performance since she'd worked there.
One funny thing that happened was that at Wesley Court, a few of the older women took a liking to Brother Jackson, and he went home saying that he had gotten two new girlfriends today. They took pictures with him and everything. Many of the older people loved us so much that they decided to join in on our group picture in the front of the building.
Today is only Monday, and I'm already feeling the spirit of God here with us. I can't wait to see what the rest of this week has in store.
