Listen to the Spirit
Today, we're bringing you another travel testimony with a story from Brother Rich Nath.
Since we moved to Texas, God has blessed us with the ability to visit our families in Pennsylvania a few times each year. Typically, we'll take longer trips in the summer and around Christmas, allowing the option to drive rather than fly. During the summer several years ago, we decided to drive and left Houston one late afternoon.
We were going to drive straight through, 22+ hours, and get to Pennsylvania the following afternoon. I drove through the night, and we reached eastern Tennessee by first light. I was feeling pretty good, got a second wind, and kept on driving. We made it to Beckley, West Virginia around lunchtime, and I was starting to feel it. It was around the 18-hour mark, and exhaustion was starting to take its toll. But, the control freak in me had to keep driving.
We continued north, and at some point after reaching I-79, we pulled over at a rest stop. I think we were about two to three hours from my parents' house. I walked into the restroom and splashed some water on my face. I was beat. I remember looking in the mirror and saying to myself, "You got this. Just a little further to go." I knew I could make this trip. I'd driven the whole way before and had no reason to believe I couldn't do it again.
Then, it happened. I didn't hear an audible voice, but the Spirit spoke to me. It said, "If you get back in that car, get into an accident, and kill your wife, you will never be able to live with yourself."
Message received, Lord.
I walked out of the restroom, took the keys out of my pocket, and handed them to Tracy. I said, "You're driving." She looked at me kind of puzzled but didn't question it. I got in the passenger seat and asked her to wake me up if I fell asleep when we got to the PA border. Within five minutes, I was sleeping like a baby. She knew which exits she needed to take and didn't wake me up until we were about 15 minutes from my parents' house. Thanks to God, we arrived safe and sound.
I give all honor and glory to God that He spoke to me that day so that I wouldn't get back behind the wheel. My pride almost got in the way, but thankfully I listened.
