He Doesn't Stand a Chance

Today's Miracle Monday falls into this month's theme, which is "missionary work" because Brother Rich Nath was on a Youth in Action (YIA) tour when this occurred. But it also falls into last month's category, which was "fear." Enjoy this testimony of God's power over the enemy.

In the summer of 1998, I had the scariest experience of my life. Thankfully, it had a wondrous, happy ending.

That summer I, along with several other young people, took part in the YIA tour to San Carlos and Tse Bonito. San Carlos was the first stop, where we helped the brothers and sisters there run VBS. It was a wonderful week. After the kids went home from VBS each day, the helpers would relax for a little while — typically taking naps — and we'd have an evening service. After the meeting, the young people all got together in a prayer circle.

On Tuesday night, we had a Spirit-filled prayer meeting. There was a strong thunderstorm off in the distance. When I prayed, I asked God to send the Three Nephites to be with us. When we finished, we headed off to bed.

All 15 guys bunked on cots in the dining room on the church compound. There wasn't much light in the room, nothing except for a faint streetlight and some flashes of lightning from the storm. As I laid in my cot, I began to feel this cold come over me, and I felt like I was on an island miles from anyone else in the room, even though another brother was a mere arm's length away.

I thought it was all in my head and tried to go to sleep, but the fear began to get worse and worse. I tried to rebuke it in the name of Christ, but it kept getting stronger and stronger. At one point, I heard a noise. It was something I had never heard before and that I really don't ever want to hear again. I looked where it seemed to come from, the front corner of the room by the outside door, and it was the blackest black I've ever seen. Suddenly, a black mist started to roll across the ceiling.

I shouted, "JESUS! JESUS! JESUS!" Two brothers awoke, and one very calmly asked what was going on. I told them what I was seeing, and the one who asked me what was going on began to pray, rebuking the evil spirit in the name of Christ. As he did this, the mist went away, and I began to feel at peace.

The other brother, the one closest to me, reached for my hand and pulled me and my cot next to his. He told me that he'd heard a voice coming from outside that said something to the effect of, "Leave and let the brothers sleep." Within a few minutes, I was out and slept the rest of the night.

At our Wednesday night service, God answered my prayer from the night before. One of the young children saw three personages, and it was given to know that they were the Three Nephites. Although Satan tried to discourage me and cause fear, Jesus Christ won the day and blessed all those in attendance not only that night but the entire YIA tour.

No matter how scary the situation, Satan does not have a chance against the Holy One of Israel! I praise God for the love that He has for His people and the grace He shows us!

Wow!!! I was getting chills just reading your experience. How wonderful for God to answer your prayers!! What really touched my heart too was how the brothers rallied around you and made sure you were close and secure and then worked with you to rebuke the evil. Thank you for sharing! God bless you much!!
