Happy Thanksgiving!

Since today is Thanksgiving, in many households, family and friends will gather together to enjoy a traditional meal. Although I hate being put on the spot, I love it when we go around the table to share one thing we are most thankful for. I enjoy hearing everyone’s answers, especially the kids because their answers are always so innocent.

Since I don’t have access to a lot of kids, I turned to the Huffington Post for what kids have said they are grateful for. Here are some of my favorites:

  • “Shoes. Getting new shoes. People who make shoes.”
  • “Hot Wheels”
  • “Trees because they give you oxygen”
  • “I'm thankful for my family and Thanksgiving feasts."
  • "I'm thankful for Fridays because I don't have to do any homework”
  • “A roof over my head, food in my belly and a family full of love”
  • “God”
  • “Veterans because they protected our country so we can keep our freedom”
  • “My mommy and daddy”
  • “Ceiling Fans”
  • “Toilet paper”

These kids are thankful for even the little things, which goes along with Paul’s teaching in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

Let's use Thanksgiving as a way to prepare ourselves for the Christmas season and the birth of Jesus. As you come up with your list of what you are thankful for to say at the dinner table, try to keep it in your heart for when the tough times come, or when you watch the news and hear of the tragedies going on in the country and around the world, or even for when you just have a rough day at work.

Remember that the Lord is good, that he sent His son for us, that He is there during the great moments of our lives as well as our darkest hours. And no matter what, there is always something to thank Him for.
