God's (Good) Plan for 2015
I'm a planner, for sure. I can appreciate spontaneity, but, in most situations, I like to know what to expect. I want to know what hotel I'm staying at on vacation. I want to know what kind of food the restaurant serves before I get there. When I get paid, I want to know ahead of time where the money is going.
How about you? Are you a planner?
I don't know if God is a "planner" or not, but He's definitely got plans. He's got a good plan for
- Me personally (and you personally!)
- The church
- The world
And I want to be part of all three — because they will come to pass.
God's Plan for Me
Sometimes it's hard to trust that it's a good plan. When things like disease, unemployment, death, and tragedy come my way, it's easy to lose focus of the fact that God doesn't withhold any good thing from me (Romans 8:32). It's so important for me to cling to Him during these tough times rather than push Him away.
Going to His word, fasting and praying, and faithfully attending church are all part of drawing closer. When I do this, I discover that whatever I'm asking for (a promotion, a healing) pales in comparison to just knowing God and holding His hand.
Also, it's kind of hard to believe that God's plans will come to pass, especially if I've been waiting a long time. It's easy to lose sight of God's promises or conclude that they're for "other people" and not me. But, no matter how long it takes, God does what He says He'll do (Isaiah 55:10-11).
God's Plan for The Church
God specifically asked us to take the gospel to the whole world (Matt. 28:19-20), and we believe we need to take it to the Seed of Joseph in particular.
Even if I know I'm not going to be happy with the answer, I need to ask myself
- Am I doing anything to forward God's plans for The Church?
- How serious am I about it?
- Are God's plans for The Church just as important to me as my plans for my personal life?
How many people wouldn't know the restored gospel if it weren't for saints who took God's plan for The Church seriously?
God's Plan for the World
Whoa, break out the telephoto lens. Scripture tells me that the course of the Lord is one big circle (1 Ne. 10:19). What was in the past will be again. God has big plans to restore Israel — all 12 tribes — and adopt the believing Gentiles. We know times of tribulation are ahead as well as times of peace in Zion and times beyond even that.
Nobody knows how much of the plan God will choose to accomplish in 2015. What I do know is that I want to be found working toward His plan instead of against it or watching it unfold as a bystander. What about you?
Note: I must thank my husband because this blog post is basically one of his sermons.
