God's AAA (Angelic Automotive Assistance)

Today we're sharing three short testimonies about angels in disguise. There's another common theme with these — cars! Enjoy.

By Sister LuAnn Carson

When I was very young, my family moved to an Indian reservation in South Dakota to do missionary work. We traveled in an old station wagon for two hours on lonely roads to attend church. One Sunday, when we were leaving church, our car wouldn’t start. After several tries, my father got it started, but it would only lurch forward slowly.

There was one town we passed through not far from the church building, and we caught a mechanic in his shop right before he was ready to leave. He thought he knew the problem and tried to correct it. We went on our way, but the car was still moving very slowly on any uphill grade and jerking roughly forward. My parents wondered how they would make it home with their three small children.

I was sitting in the back seat of the station wagon facing the rear of the car and simply said a man dressed in white was pushing the car. My mom and dad turned to look but could see no one. I insisted that he was there pushing although no one else saw him. When we arrived home, the man disappeared, and the car died as we stopped in the garage. After many tries that night and the next morning, the car wouldn’t start.

When my father told the principal at the reservation school where he taught, the principal said he knew what the car needed. He came to the house and put in the needed part, not understanding how we could possibly have driven at all without it.

It was snowing pretty steadily the day after Christmas a few years ago. I was on my way home from a client's house in a rural area when I started skidding on the snow-covered roads. My car ended up stuck in a snowbank. Try as I might, I could not move the car.

I got out my cell phone and was just about to call AAA when, from up the road, a white truck, like a step van, came along. The driver stopped, rolled down his window, and asked me if I wanted him to pull me out. Of course, I accepted his offer. He produced a thick canvas strap, crawled under my car and attached it, hooked the other end to his trailer hitch, and pulled my car out of the snowbank and onto a level stretch of road.

We got out to unhook the vehicles, and I thanked him profusely. He just smiled and said, "You have a Merry Christmas." Then he got in his truck and drove off.

It took me a few seconds to get my car turned around, and then I drove off in the same direction as the truck. I could see a good distance up the road, but I couldn't see the truck anywhere. The road ended in a T-intersection, which was very straight and flat, so I could see a good distance in either direction. What I didn't see was the truck. It was just gone.

I like to remember this as the time I received a Christmas present from an angel!

During my sophomore year of college, I was driving to take a final exam, and on the way, “Klunk, klunk," my old “klunker” broke down. All I could think of was how would I explain this to my professor? I was just a short distance from the local college I had been attending. I said a prayer.

All of a sudden, a man riding a motorcycle pulled up and asked me if I needed help. This was before cell phones. I didn’t have too many options. I told him my quandary, and he offered to give me a ride to the college. He had a soft, gentle voice and a beard. He even told me he had an extra helmet that he used for his daughter.

I took the ride to the college. He drove very safely, and he pulled me right up to the door of the building on the campus. Somehow, I took my exam without much trouble.

Was this man an angel, or a good Samaritan, who saw my need? I am not sure, but I DO know that God knew I needed deliverance that day, and this man was an angel to me in getting safely to my exam.

Miracle Monday Theme for April

Here's a theme we've never done before: weather. Yes, wind, rain, sun, snow. We know that Jesus calmed the storm in scripture — what about in your life? Did God ever manipulate the weather in a miraculous way? Tell us about it — click here.

Love the title. God's response time is much quicker than AAAA. :) His omnipresence never ceases to amaze me.
